UI Orlando Lawyer-Randy Goodis, Attorney At Law

A former Assistant State Attorney can defend your Orlando DUI cases

Have you found yourself on the wrong side of the law because of a DUI in Orlando?  Make sure that you secure your defenses by hiring an attorney who had the experience to successfully defend you and your rights.  As a former Assistant State Attorney in the DUI Division of the downtown Orlando Courthouse, I have won cases in front of the numerous Judges that handle the DUI caseloads.  My knowledge and connections as a former Assistant State Attorney have provided me with an advantage to represent you in your DUI in Orlando.  I was in Judge Arnold's division, but did trials and argued motions before all the judges including Judge Freeman, Judge Lauten, Judge Blechman and Judge Brewer (back when he had a full head of hair and a ponytail).  This is also the same with the Osceola courthouse where I was the Division chief for the DUI Unit the Office of the State Attorney.  I handled all the Osceola DUI arrests in front of Judge Legendre and have handled numerous cases in front of Judge Draper.  Who better to represent you for your Orlando DUI than a former Orlando DUI prosecutor?

My practice is centered around defending Florida residents, tourists, juveniles, college students, professionals, pilots, teachers, and anyone else who cannot allow a DUI conviction to haunt their records.  In my experience as a criminal law attorney, I have worked on countless cases, defending the reputation and livelihood of thousands of Orlando clients.  A DUI Orlando conviction can have serious and life-changing consequences. Those suddenly faced with criminal charges may be forced to put life on hold – your career and home life may suddenly be in jeopardy, your reputation on the line. For juveniles and college students, once-bright futures may be affected.

The Florida Criminal Procedure is a difficult one to navigate, especially when you intermix the laws associated with DUI’s in Orlando.  There are a few different ways to get out of jail once you have been arrested: Release by posting bond - This option requires the posting of the entire bond (in cash or money order) at the jail. These funds will be returned to you at the end of the case, provided you appear for all court hearings, as required.  Use of a Bail Bondsman for your DUI in Orlando - The alternative requires that you pay a bondsman a fee (approximately 10%) so that he will post the bond. The bondsman may also require collateral to cover the bond.  You are free to travel while released on bond or ROR. This is true unless a restriction on travel is ordered by the Judge or the ROR program. Should you fail to appear for a court hearing, the Court will likely revoke the bond or ROR and issue a warrant for your arrest.  Release on own recognizance (ROR) - This form of release requires that the Judge is convinced that you will appear for all future court proceedings. No bond is required for this release.
If you decide to hire a Orlando DUI lawyer to fight your DUI charge, there are alternatives to license suspension and jail time. If your case isn’t totally dismissed, you could be given:

  • Fines
  • Probation
  • Community service
  • DUI driving school
  • Substance abuse counseling

You may decide to take your Orlando DUI case to trial. If that is your decision, the case may require substantial preparation. Preparation will include the review of all testimony and evidence.  I will file a motion with a judge requesting permission to speak with the officers and any witnesses relating to your arrest.  Based on the information given to me by the witnesses, under oath, I will be able to file the appropriate pretrial motions to work to have various aspects of your arrest and the evidence against you thrown out of court.

Orlando DUI charges, as well as throughout the entire State of Florida,  are considered “enhance able” and the consequences for a second, third or subsequent DUI arrest are more severe than those for a first time offender.  In some cases, a third or subsequent DUI charge will be prosecuted in Felony court leaving you with a permanent felony record. Because of these tougher penalties you need a skilled and experienced DUI lawyer on your side.  If you are interested in avoiding some or all of the criminal and administrative penalties normally associated with a DUI Orlando conviction, Contact Attorney Randy Goodis for a free initial case evaluation and visit our DUI Case Wins page to see my success rate in representing clients like you.
