Penalties for DUI in Florida


 

Driving Under the Influence is not taken very lightly in the State of Florida.  Should you find yourself in a position where you have been convicted of DUI, you stand the chance of facing very serious consequences.  The penalties for a first time DUI conviction are as follows:

  1. Up to 180 days in County jail
  2. Your driving privileges will be suspended for no less than 180 days or more than one year
  3. No less than $250 or more than a $500 fine
  4. No more than one year of probation
  5. Court ordered DUI school
  6. Participation in a Victim Awareness Program
  7. No less than 50 hours of community service
  8. Court costs

If your blood alcohol level or breath alcohol level was .2 or higher or you were accompanied in the vehicle by someone under 18 years of age you could face:

  1. No more than 270 days in County jail
  2. Fine that will be no less than $500 or no more than $1000
  3. The court shall order at your expense, an Ignition Interlock Device for up to 180 days

Both types of cases also include:

  1. Permanent DUI conviction on your record
  2. Insurance costs will skyrocket if they do not drop your coverage
  3. Vehicle impoundment for 10 days
